Whilst down the allotment yesterday I noticed that one of my transplanted crowns was sprouting which in my view is far too soon, I placed a shovelful of manure over, glad I did we had a good freeze last night

I only transplanted this a few weeks ago but where it sits is on a shovelful of seaweed backfilled with soil/horse muck mix, it must like where it is👍

Mine's started sprouting too I noticed. Not worried though it did the same last year and was perfectly fine.

Sorry to say, but if you put manure on the top, they can rot, best to add it around the sides. They are fully hardy and even if left on the soil surface, over winter, they still grow away in Spring.

Just leave it to get on with it

I've had this in previous years. Generally it just hunkers down until late winter, sitting there doing nothing and will then develop as normal.

I wondered whether it was the mild autumn.
I got some small sprouty leaves too - the first ones died and the second ones are just curling up now.
They'll die too, and eventually the weather will be bad enough that they'll sleep for winter.
