Sorry for a simple question about onions.

My onion and shallotts have been brilliant and I have harvetsed them as they were lying down.  How do I now dry them for storage?
Time waits for no man and I can't wait for growth.

Hang them - you basically plait them and you get your "string of onion".  I'm still eating onions from 12 months ago because of this method :D

I thought that you were not supposed to plait them until they are dry, or they start to go mouldy

Dry them on a piece of chicken wire, or a barbie rack, (something that will let the air get all round them) and put them somewhere out of the rain :)

I agree. Whatever you do dry them well before plaiting them.

If they are brittle when you try to plait damp them a little. Water will quickly dry whereas sap will not.

Any bulbs with noticeably thicker necks than the others tend not to dry properly and therefore not keep well and are best eaten sooner rather than later.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
