Problem with day old chick
« on: February 28, 2010, 08:13 »
Hi everyone, i'm new to this, i found this site looking for a solution to a little promblem i have just wondered if anyone had come across this before. I've incubators and hatched 10 chicks all went well all seemed to be doing fine, but one has a red pea sized lump under it bottom, it doesn't seem to bother it at all, its eating and drinking and the other seem to be leaving it alone. Anyone got any ideas ...

Doesn't sound normal does it?  :(
Pictures always help, someone may have experienced something similar.

I'm sure somebody on here posted about a bit protuding out after hatching and then it got absorbed back in their body after a day or so - will have to read a lot of old posts to try and find it.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Wasn't it Chickenlady who mentioned that before?  And after a while like you said Joy, it was absorbed back into the body, part of the old yolk sac or something?  I've never had one like that, hope its okay!

right found this which the person does say it is a yolk sack and will get absorbed back into the chicks body without any problems - their chick had other unrelated problems though.

So it looks like your chick should be fine in a day or so  :D

Still alive this morning. the lump seems to be more orange than yesterday not sure if this is good or not also it seems its quite hard to be absorbed back in. It is still eating and drink so that good.
