because I'm going to plant my  brassicas in breathable ground cover sheeting next year I'm undecided if to buy some cabbage collars as they mite be non productive ?

I.ve  never used cabbage collars before so I know very little about cabbage collars if they work to protect against cabbage root fly keeps the ground warm and weed control as it says in the catalogue?

any advise much appreciated  :unsure:

I've never used them and never had any trouble. If you did start having trouble you can
make collars out of cardboard.

I have a problem with root fly and the only way I can protect my young plants is with collars. I planted out 10 calabrese this year and the only one that suffered was the one where the collar had been disturbed by sparrows having a dust bath. The fly managed to get under and lay its eggs with the obvious result. As mum says, you can make them out of cardboard or anything else thin and flexible that won't damage the plant. I couldn't grow brassicas without them.

I use squares of underlay with a slit cut in them, next time I make some I'll make them bigger to rest on top of the membrane I plant through

I use rhubarb leaf ripped into pieces and held down at the edges with soil.
