Hi all.
       Are spent hops from the brewing of beer any good for compost?.

I've not tried it yet, but yes, apparently so. I've just tracked down a micro-brewery near me who says I can have their hops.

My friend uses them as a mulch and also composts them, he loves them !!!

I have used spent hops for a few years. I put them on the compost heap as when I tried them as a mulch they dried out and blew everywhere. Great on the compost heap though - best smelling heap on the Allotment . ( but then I like Real Ale)

I used to get spent hops delivered by the skip full. I grew the best and cleanest potatoes I've ever grown when I could get them. Unfortunately the brewery has long since closed, if I could get spent hops I'd get as much as I could.

I used to get lots of bags of hop waste from a local picking machine, and it was a fabulous ground conditioner, but somehow was filled with weed seeds (probably from where it was stored)!
