Poor Gabrielle

:(  :( Thought I would let Dusty out on Wednesday with her brood of 5. Mimi and Tiffany have got together and are sharing motherhood so their chicks are ok cos both chooks have attitude:D But, someone  took a dislike to poor Gabrielle (so called cos her real mummy tried to peck her eye out and kill her when she first hatched  ) and had a go at her. Poor thing has a HUGE wound on her back, i.e all the skin broken and looks almost like its rolled back. Made my Lily go all wobbly :( I cleaned it up as best I could and smothered loads n loads of Tea Tree cream on it. I put her back with Dusty (a very loving Silkie). Yesterday I really expected to find her dead but she survived :D I have just got back from 24 hours pet sitting and she seems ok, eating and drinking  What a tough little chick  but how sad that some chooks can be so cruel to babies
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!

She's a bit of a survivor, isn't she?

Hope she's OK ... I feel very fond of Gabrielle  :)
Nobody said this was going to be easy ... but some days are better than others!

:D  :D  :D still going strong bless her, I smothered her in me fav cream again  and she is eating and drinking ok. Will try and post a piccie later
We have, however, had 3 silkie chicks hatch, what seems to be slightly early and then dying. I have found 2 hatched but dead, and 1 who had blood and a bit of yolk still attached and the mummy looking like she might kill it. I have left them to it to let nature take its course, this one is so tiny I dont think I could have stepped in :(  Am getting a bit concerned as to why this has happened tho, 3 times in 24 hours   :?: any ideas :?:
