picked up my fave hen chick and found this big lump on her breast

i thought oh no she is a lot smaller than the others and felt a bit skinny

so im thinking Tumor or such then i felt the others and they had it too


 :oops:  :oops:  :oops: its the crop  :oops:  :oops:  :oops:

when should i offer grit for them they are now 6 weeks old

Had the same embarrassing moment. Birds had got at the dry cat food without me knowing so the hard, craggy malignant feeling mass in their neck was pretty alarmimg :shock:
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

i was also told today that you should not hatch ducks in July   :?  :?  :?  :?

Would have thought a bit of (fine?) grit would be needed for the grass and the cardboard (!).

Presumably because most are hatched in June so by July they'll be too small to survive when Autumn comes. Maybe.
With all the larger June ducklings competing they'll be left behind.

Makes some sort of sense in the wild but when they'll be fed every day and looked after it can't matter much.

I have heard something similar about hatching ducklings -hatching for them started I think March, they assessed how many they have colours, breed etc. then a last hatch in May,however, they hatched on a large scale with very big ponds so would imagine not a problem with just a few.
