I'd grossly over-planted turnips and spinach beet this year. The turnips have started to rot and the spinach beet is all going to seed. Ah well, at least it'll all add to the compost bin

My chickens are eating the bolted chard, so I am 'growing chicken vitamin supplements and eggs'

Planted normal quantity of lettuce grown from seed, and sowed lettuce leaf mix direct for the first time this year. Plus couldn't let a batch of spare lettuce plants from family go to waste. All whilst forgetting both the little gardener-and-wabbits are now away at uni.  All have grown prodigiously in the wet weather we've had, so friends have had a lot of spare lettuce this year...

After the first early spuds failed, I sowed a bed of swede, and also spinach.

The swede have bolted immediately, and while we did get some spinach, that's now a yard high as well and growing faster by the minute...

I always thought a catch crop was one where you popped something into any spare space, not something you have to do to avoid being toppled on by a giant spinach tree...
