bantam getting broody

hi everyone need some advice have got a broody bantam and no cockerel. she has been on eggs since yesterday morning and have managed to get some off her but she is pecking me little monkey. are these eggs okay to eat since she has been sat on them??  ;)

Hi Lisa

I never eat eggs that have been sat on for over a day, others may do different :)

Best thing to do is keep shifting her off the nest, shut her out if possible, the longer she sits the longer it will be till she lays again :)

i agree with vember, i wouldnt eat eggs that have been sat on, it gets mighty warm under a chuck so better to be safe

If you want her to hatch some chicks she will need fertile eggs, you don't need a cockerel, there are various places to get fertile eggs from, although I think it's a bit late in the year to start hatching chicks, (someone with experience of raising chicks should be able to advise you better on this). A broody hen could be like it for several weeks, she should not be left to sit in the nest box as it will prolong the broodiness. Many people remove a broody into a separate container, sort of a colditz, for a while to break the mood.
