Hi everyone,

I've got a sick chook which I'm treating with antibiotics at the moment, but I am also suspecting a worm infestation possibly including tapeworm.  Here in Australia the over-the-shelf wormers don't deal with tapeworm but I did read on a forum somewhere someone suggesting it is possible to use a dog worming treatment as a substitute.  Have I got that right?  And can anyone advise on a dosage?

Oops, sorry. I'm still getting the hang of this.

Yeah, I live in Australia and have been the happy owner of three chooks for two years; 1 isa brown, 1 black Australorp and 1 leghorn.  I love the fact that they round out the garden, giving me wonderful manure for the vege patch and flowers.

I've already had a bit of a look around the forum and have already learnt lots so can see I'll probably be avoiding housework here for a long time to come!

Hi, over here we use flubenvet for worming our hens. If you cant get that then the dog wormer you may be thinking of is panacur (either sheep or dog versions). You can also use ivermectin. None of these are licensed for poultry so as such you may either have to wait a month before eating any eggs (I would check with your vets regarding this and also the correct dosage).

Thanks for the information.  I'm now on the info prowl for what canine wormers are available and what they are made of.  Never a dull moment.
