have made raised beds full of 5yo horse manure.
reading through threads realise that carrots and parsnips don't want manure, so planning these in drums of 50/50 sand and compost.

the big question is what of the 2 growing methods would the beetroot prefer, or do they need something different altogether

to be honest I grew them for the 1st time last year. I just threw some seeds on a spare row I had and they grew brilliantly. No manure/compost just good old soil.

i'm afraid i have terrible wet clay soil, which was previously part of the horses field (just stole a corner for veggies), hence the raised beds. so popping them into the soil not really do-able here
i so wish it was, lots of hard labour getting the raised beds done, but it does make me smile when i look at what i'v acheived (i have to say this as OH thinks i'v gone mad)

Scotty, my best ever beetroot were grown from seeds that I dropped on my clay lottie when sowing onions....give a few a try and see what happens.

Beetroot should be fine in the raised bed they will grow quick in the rich ground and this is the best way to grow . Grown slow they can be a bit 'woody'
