I thought the best stuff for carrots and snips was a nutrient-poor soil composed mainly of sand, with very few roots or stones in. Am I right?

My theory is that earlier plantings cause more mis-shapes.  Thinking goes as follows ... cold wet ground and baby 'snip has got no incentive to go deep into cold ... later planting equals warmer drier ground so down he goes to ensure he gets water.

Anyone agree or disagree with this?

Mine got sown quite early, to say the least and they are big and smooth and georgeus, lol, 8)  8)  8)
What a lovely dinner we had( and abit of frosty thing the other day, yes sir)

Well, there was no fresh organic matter on that bit for 2 years, and I think I sowed them there in May, as it was definitely after my spuds, which I planted at Easter!  I was late in sowing them, as the first sowings didn't do anything!  Probably because it was too cold!

Dug one for dinner tonight, and it was over a foot long (and no forks!!!)
