dug a parsnip today for dinner the morrows .. not bad  see pics .. also makes the point of making sure you dont mis any plants when ya thinning em out

Mine look like that, but they aren't intertwined! see below.  Was very nice but could do with being left a bit longer for some flavour.  What causes them to look like this, the soil is very fine, so no stones etc.

Im jealous really as never prepared the ground to get my parsnips in this year.

I've got a bag of Aunt Bessies in the freezer, but it ain't the same.

They've got to be one of my favourite veggies.

Oh dear grannie, too much fresh organic matter can cause misshapen or forked roots.  Could that have been the problem ?

My theory is that earlier plantings cause more mis-shapes.  Thinking goes as follows ... cold wet ground and baby 'snip has got no incentive to go deep into cold ... later planting equals warmer drier ground so down he goes to ensure he gets water.

Anyone agree or disagree with this?
