Hi my chooks LOVE their dust baths!Mine free range,& they love dried out soil.If you don't free range & use a washing up bowl, some people use sand, dry compost or soil,or even a mixture.I've heard you worm them from about 6 months-I could be wrong though, someone will come along soon who will know more.I only got mine last week, they are 5 months now,so they need to be done too.Hope this helps

Hi Np long time no hear :)

Think I'd be tempted to give them a dose at 6 months, especially if they've been on the same bit of ground since they went out :)

Mine free range so find their own baths but I have put sand in for mum's with babies and that worked ok.

What happened to your favorite little hen & the 2 chicks from the greenhouse ??

It's a Wormer.

It comes as a powder that you can either give a pinch in a grape or something, or mix it with their feed.

Aunt Sally is in contact with the makers, and they're bringing out a small flock pack in a few weeks which will be easier to administer and cheaper  :)

Did you have any other product in mind ?

In which case, if you can hang on a few weeks, it might be worth waiting for the new Flubenvet pack, unless someone else advises otherwise.

It's the only wormer I have experience of and is reckoned to be good, but there are other products available.

Unless you see any evidence of worms, in which case, go with whatever you can get and does the job safely.

Hi NP,

I had to worm My girls a while back. I tried mixing the flubenvet in with some oil and dried mealworms but only 1 of my chooks ate them! so I just decided to mix it in with some feed, filled the feeder and let them eat from that! Although when I had an ill chook I was advised to get some wormer into her ASAP so I got one of those 'orange sticks' (what the women folk do their cuticles with!   ) picked up a dab of the worming powder on the end and just put it in the chooks moputh directly! It worked a treat but may not be the best way if you have a large flockl!!

Hi Mick

I asked the guy at North W about worming and he only uses Vermex for his flock as he's organic.  He has hundreds of birds so he must rate the stuff
