Picking a steady supply of broad beans from over wintered plants - seed was sown end of October.

I don't think its the frost that kills them off so much as cold wet winds, so if you can give them a bit of wind protection then they should come through the winter okay.

The plants tend to look pretty ropey and unpromising in the early spring but then they seem to perk themselves up and get on with the job in hand of producing lots of beans!
Gardening organically on chalky, stony soil.

We sow Aquadulce in October to overwinter. We've been picking beans now for the last 2 weeks - they're a month further on than last year though, which is weird. We didn't have much frost but it did snow twice and they were fine. Last year they froze and looked quite dead, but they seemed to pick up again in spring. Hoping to have them out soon so we can put in french beans.

Will definitely try over-wintering for next year. Our spring sowing was attacked by bean weevil - the plants have pulled through and are now flowering but they're very small. Those on our site who over-wintered have marvellous crops!
