Broody - Oh no you're not Missy!
« on: May 26, 2011, 18:25 »
So, I go to get the eggs this morning and Bess has decided to sit on the eggs and looks at me with that look of "don't even consider moving those eggs or me".
So after quite a few pecks and having to put on my gardening gloves that even a Bird of prey couldn't rip through, she was out of the nest box and back with her friends. Ten minutes later she is back in there and already cursing at me before I even open up the nest box.

This time I mean business and we have a scuffle and she's put of the nest and the coop is locked up, so she can't get back in. The day has been quite cool and windy and hopefully she has cooled down enough to lose her broodiness, otherwise I have another fight with Mike Tyson booked in the morning  :)

The worst of mine is a Wyandotte - broody for the last three weeks. i have tried everything to break her, to no avail. I don't want to put eggs under her as I already have a Barnevelder and Speckledy with eggs, but she's absolutely lethal when I try and hoist her out. I've got three inch-long scars on my arm where she has drawn blood!
