Councils proposing no permanent plantings.........

This seems quite worrying. I hope it isn't going to be a growing trend.

-changes in terms of the agreement are being planned by 32 Councils and considered by 12 more, eg to avoid compensation on termination of tenancy, Tameside (Greater Manchester) now stipulates no "(a) standard or other fruit trees permanently set out; (b) fruit bushes (c) strawberry plants; (d) asparagus, rhubarb, and other vegetable crops which continue productive for two or more years."

That clause was on my agreement when I got my plot 2 years ago, so it's nothing new.

Apart from not planting trees, which you wouldn't on a small plot anyway, nobody takes any notice ;)

We don't have that clause, luckily.

But I would have planted rhubarb etc anyway  :)

It's a stupid clause !

The only restrictions we have are no trees over 3 metres tall.

This clause was in the Ashford Agreements used in the 80s, so It's obviously nothing new and always has been ignored

I think (well, I know) that councils seem to be oblivious to the Allotment Act and send out all sorts of stupid, ill-advised letters to tenants instructing them about fruit, or anything else come to think of it  :D

My allotment pal received an official letter from the council ordering that they remove their "raspberry trees".  They just make themselves a laughing stock  :nowink:  Needless to say she ignored it

We have had a veritable avalanche of such nonsense from our lot, but we have been able to officially bat it back at them because we have NSALG membership and they are very quick to point out out to misinformed councillors what the law says.  They can't just make this stuff up as they go along, no matter how much they might want to
