Best sort of late summer protection for plants?
« on: August 10, 2008, 08:34 »
Well, time is running out on the Swedish summer and I have lots of green tomatoes on the vines, as well as some peas and beans I´d hoped to get an autumn harvest off, but I´m worried the chilly nights will foil me.

What sort of cover would be best? A plastic poly-tunnel type or would fleece be enough? Can tomatoes ripen under fleece?

Hello there gardgydja,
I dont know about covering tomatoes but if i have any that havent ripened i make green tomato chutney, and those which are a little bit ripe i leave on the vine and put on the windowsill in the house where it is sunny.
Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else.

you can ripen toms by taking the vines off the plant and taking them indoors to the greenhouse etc

I've not got one ripe tom yet  :(
