Watering carrots

Hi,

I always have an issue when watering carrots that are in the greenhouse beds. I use a fairly fine rose but I always seem to flatten the tops. I only water them once a week. Anyone have an ingenious solution to watering carrots?

I've tried watering from a bottle at soil level but I never really get even coverage that way.

I've sown them in a block which is partly the problem as if I had done rows then I could have watered in between the rows. We live and learn!

If you buy one of the flat roses that you can turn upwards, you will get a much finer spray of water out of the can One like this -

That should be able to get plenty of water on, but without the 'big lumps'

Thanks New shoot. The rose looks a lot finer than the one I have. I think that's a winner.

I was told by a couple of older chaps down the allotment...
To dig a shallow trench next to but not too close to the carrots (or any root veg) and water in the trench so the ground underneath is wet, and they will root down to find it ?

That is what I do and have not had any issues
