When do i move them out of the propogator?
« on: February 27, 2009, 13:16 »
Hi,

I have Aubergine and Pepper seedlings in my heated propagator and are sturdy little seedlings, but only with seed leaves, should i wait until the first true leaves or can i pot them up now?
Liv.

LIVVY
The chilli peppers I grew last year sown in Jan didn't leave the propagator until April it was just to cold to risk putting them in the greenhouse chilli's are very slow growers and like a bit of bottom heat, most of my stuff hatched in the propagator sit in there without the lid on quite happy so I would leave them a while until they get a bit bigger you could also give the chilli's a very weak feed.

Oh Dear, they are not getting that long in there. I have other things lined up for a nice warm start. Toms etc.

I took mine off the top of the fish tank (err propagator) as soon as they germinated so I could put them in the light. They're doing okay at room temp :)

They should grow fine on a window sill  or three if you're running out of space elsewhere
If at first you don't succeed..... cheat!

My lid comes off as soon as they pop their leaves up

I agree with dougsta; they need heat to germinate, but once they have germinated then I put them on a windowsill. They need light to grow on, not heat (but not too cold either).
