You're not going to believe this but I've just finished on the phone and have been given another rotavator! All I know is that it is a driven Bantam if that makes any sense to the wise ones on here. Will pick up on Wednesday so prepare for more pics and questions and Gwiz, cancel your hols, I need you.

You're going to need another shed to store all these free rotovators, Phil :D

You can only use one at a time, Phil!
I'm here, I don't know much about very old machines, but if I can help I will, and I'm sure that Dorimower will know a bit about them as well! :)

Oh...another rotavator :);)....but unfortunately one I know absolutely nothing about at all    ;)
My collection escalated the other day too and thus for a few days I had 2 boxes stood in the hallway near the kitchen door with Merry Tiller lawn tines in  ;)

i reckon we should have a rotavator museam section on here with all the pictures of everyones machines ,that would be really interesting and a good quick visuall reference for everyone interested

Parts are rare and expensive. I have two or three engines (originals) but I intend to replace them with a modern engine. I also have a 200 complete but Knackered. Water ran out of the gear box !!!
I think this will be a more challenging project than the Wizard. Should keep you busy for at least two weeks.

i think that there should be something on the front end ,perhaps weights or something and i think the engine has been replaced because i think its a briggs and stratton engine on it not the villiers as i was told

ive got the 2 rods for here ,i took them of so i could take the handle of for ease of transport
tyres look good tines look good its just the rest of it lol

Gosh ???
thats only half a bantam and half imagination, the engine should be lower and infront of the wheels.
Mind you its a good bit shorter and more able to get into the corners and headlands.
The engine also has a reduction gear box on it. And its A B&S i think. Have a look at the operators manual in the info pages on this site. The gear levers are truncated as well.
Bigger prodject than the Wizard :D

one hell of a bigger project without going back to the villiers do you think its a viable project or am i fooling myself
it is a b s engine and im still working out the pulleys etc ,but what is your genuine opinion , time isnt a problem but cash is
-
it can be done and if time is no problem you wont need much money. Have you had look at a origonal one
-
yes i have ,but im really tempted to go with a 5hp briggs engine ,not original but powerfull
-
go for a nice honda G150 or G200 they look the part to.
-
i presume they are reliable as well frankie ,is the 200 about 5 horse
-
Yes the G150 is 3.5hp and the G200 is 5hp. 3.5hp is plenty for the Bantam.
-
Are you going to give it a go???
i will whack the bits you need on ebay

got to wait till the children go back to school otherwise no peace

I think that funny engine mount has been riggerd to accomodate the reduction gearbox as much as to make it easier to use as I'd have thought it unbalanced the machine making it tail heavy..... I'm off to pick up a pair of Howards this week, a 400 that I'm hoping will be the front-line machine for my alllotment and a Bullfinch that is probably a bit small for me but with the minor fettling it needs done I'm certain someone will want to give it a good home

would i be right in assuming that the reducer thing on the side of the engine would marry up to other briggs and stratton engines for example a 5hp of a cylinder mower or 3hp of a cylinder mower ,but probably wouldnt fit onto a honda .and what is the purpose of the reducer and could i do without it ,or would it be to fast ???????
-
The gear box would probily fit any "Q" frame engine. And would not be too fast just more fun ;)
-
update on howard im building a large grow box in the shed 7ft wide 3ft deep and 6ft high insulated with a pipe heater underneath and grow lights on chains above so i can raise and lower the lights .ive put the howard back onto freegle because i just havent got the room its got a new 2nd hand 5hp b & s engine everythings back on the chassis but my priority is the growbox so sorry to let you lot down but i need to grow grow grow
