I already have several runner bean planted placed in the garden but I am wondering if it is too late in the season to sow some more runner beans in pots before planting out? Is it worth the trouble?

I sometimes sow runner bean seeds next to where I have planted plants grown in pots.
This is just a safety measure to make sure I get something if the plants are attacked or damaged by weather etc. Doesn’t cost much to add a few more seeds.

I do the same as HH - if they come up the new plants help to extend the cropping season.

I was just about to put away my runner bean seed packets and noticed on the one packet (Cobra dwarf beans) for direct sowing it says mid-May and June (I wouldn't have thought climate here in Belgium was that different to the UK's!
