I tried paper pot method and a few sowings of direct (non soaked) last year.

I found when i planted paper pots and direct at the same time the direct actually caught up and overtook the paper pot ones next to them. The early direct sowings did have a germination problem later ones where 99%. I put this down to the soil not having warmed up enough, thats why mine still not in this year the soil in general is still to cold.

So i really think the direct method is best just dont rush them in.

I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

You could be right if the mice aren't hungry!!  ;)

I'll try both this year and see  :) Thanks.

EY UP
some people soak peas n beans in
parrafin before planting this keeps
the birds and mice away

I was going to ask if anyone soaks their beans or peas in parrafin, as i had heard of this as well. Does anyone do this? we are plagued with mice on our allotment.  Can't think of anyway of getting rid of them,  the mice i mean.

Having lost the best part of two sowings to mice, despite soaking in paraffin, I now employ two traps.

My last sowing that I thought was lost to weather have now started emerging.

I now have hundreds of beans in pots as replacements, some not needed and I'm running short of space.

I pre-chitted them by soaking in water in a lunchbox for just over a day until the seeds had swollen. I then drained off the water and kept them moist with a layer of damp kitchen roll above and below until they sprouted then planted in indiidual 3" pots.

Don't leave them soaking in water for too long or they will rot, they need to breathe.

No that's the root and it should be going down not up for air.
