Have read that copper nails dont work..?

Meh. best plan I think is to do a covert mission and slaughter the weed as he sleeps (normally, thats till midday at least) then blame it on someone else if he asks  :)

Hypodermic syringe and sodium chloride. Inject it in several parts over about a month for steady degradation as a 'disease'. Doooont blame it on a specific disease and say it is a general one.

However I can't talk... I'll post a picture here of some Ivy that -has- taken over an entire fence and is now -the- fence. It's also taken over the first house in a terrace (we are the next house). I've been fighting a private war with the dammn stuff for about a year ever since it started to take over our wall. I've already lost the shed.

Copper nails don't work at all, an old wives tale.

I have seen a tree that had copper nails hit in it, was thriving, the guy then chopped it down anyway

There is a house a few miles from where we live, and it is completely covered in ivy as is the entire garden and outbuildings.  You cannot even see the windows.  There is a little gap cut at the front door though, because apparently somebody lives in it !!!  It really is evil stuff.  Good Luck,  Mrs Bouquet

Damn.

I've just been out with the salt to mine.

Never mind, there's some very unhappy looking slugs.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

You've boosted my trust in my decision to never allow ivy on my property despite numerous persistent offers of such. Blessed be those of us in brick houses who are ivy free. The dratted winds do enough damage by themselves.  I wish you sincere luck jonewer.

Ivy can be a pain, we have it invading our house from nextdoor both front and back of the house, you can never seem to get the aerial roots off.

We have loads on the trees out front but the bungalow is free of it.
