Potatoes...Please put my mind at rest !
« on: March 15, 2010, 09:03 »
Hello All,

The shoots on my chitting spuds are now turning a purple / pink colour and are about 1-2 inches in length.

A few questions which may seem silly,

1, I assume I plant the seed pos with the shoots facing down ?

2, Will the shoots shorten in length ? They seem long compared with pictures in books and internet.

3, How long will they keep before I need to plant. Was hoping to get in by the end of March.

They have been chitting for about 3 weeks now.

Help !

Thanks from an unsure plotter !!!!

No silly questions!

1. Chits go up!
2. They wont shorten, but if you think you have too many (more than 4) then you can knock some off
3. End of March will be fine, as long as they dont get frosted in the meantime.

Just keep on with what you are doing, its fine  :)

Hi.
You're only a tad higher up the country. Looking at your 7 day temp forecast..you should be ok next week.

Just earth up well to protect from frost.
Top tip for camping....don't go.
