Nearly all of the slugs my pellets have killed seem to be black,

Come to think of it , I am the same. All black and no other colour.
Yes I do use Slug pellets. Where I haven't I have had bad slug damage and where I have no slug damage.
99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.

Did anybody try the liquid garlic slug deterrent I posted on here. It was on Gardeners World. A woman who had Britains largest Hosta collection says it werks for her.   If anybody is interested Iwil put it on again if it works.

I'd be grateful too if you could, Ruby Red  :)

I didn't use as many as last year, but I've absolutely no chance without them living in wet Ireland inbetween overgrown gardens and loads of hedges.

Went cutting the * the last 2 weeks or so but didn't seem to reduce the invasion :( So I put more out last night and had slimey trails everywhere.
I will check tomorrow what colours have succumbed to them (definitley some huge black ones)

Thanks for posting, everyone. :)
I was hoping that the pellets would be designed to be more attractive to the grey slugs. In fact they may be, despite the fact that most people report mainly black slugs dead. The black ones could be eating the grey ones, that are lying around dead dying or debilitated, and getting poisoned that way.

I don't know yet if I have a slug problem or not, although we do have slugs and snails aplenty.  :o But I'd like to be prepared with something that hits specifically the ones that are doing the munching if (when   ) they attack.
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Sounds a bit like the stuff RubyRed mentioned. I think I'd want a liquid, so that it actually goes on the plants, or on sacrificial plants.

 I've just had a brainwave for dealing with the rabbit netting problem I just posted about

I waged war on the slugs this year with pellets - the beer traps and other methods didn't serve me too well last year - and I haven't seen a slug for weeks - still can't get rid of the snails though
Total beginner - please bear with me if I ask daft questions!!

I have also used them due to the amount of damage I am getting in the garden (I Haven't moved production up to my plot yet). I'm finding all sorts of colours of slug that I never knew existed! is that true about the underground thing? I just "closhed" one of my courgettes after the other got eaten bare over the weekend... will it be safe?

Do snails eat our veggies too?

Anyway, I'm very interested in the organic mehod if you could post a link please ruby.
If only we could teach the Slugs to only eat the Weeds, and then the Pigeons to only eat the Slugs!
