About 125g per bird/day dry weight is a good average if it helps  :D

sorry its like dust to be honest.  If you get pellets in France then mash is just the same but in a powder form. Its ground up maize corn ash etc etc balanced to give everything a hen needs, if you feed completely on mash or pellets then they say there's no need for anything other than water.

Thanks for that. I havent seen it over here. Ill stick with the grain/pellets and maize plus oyster shell. They are all thriving on it.

HELP For a Newbie

Well so far they all seem to be eating and drinking well and have laid 14 eggs today!!! they broke 2 bless them, and have decided that the rabbits bed is their nesting box so we need to build arthur a new bed bless him!

We have one little lady that has hurt her leg somehow - maybe when she was taken out of the cages? She was sitting under the water trough getting wet everytime they went for a drink, so I picked her up and put her in a box of straw and hand fed her and gave her water several times throughout the day.

Later in the afternoon she hadnt improved any and doesnt seem to be able to put any weight on her right leg, and the others typically all wanted the box she was in so she was getting a bit pestered.

I have now put her in a cat box still in the shed with the others, but thought she would be left alone a bit to recover and it was easier to attach water and food within her reach.  She is eating and drinking well and even laid an egg bless her little heart!

Sorry for the long story - but have I done the right thing?  Or does anyone have any better suggestions?

Well I think you've done the right thing Hazel.

Ex-batts can hurt their legs really easily as they have never had to use them before much and their muscles are quite weak.  She should recover well but it may take a while  :D

Thank you aunt sally been really worried about her while i was at work today  - she still seems to be eating ok and I left OH in charge to check on her.  Feel really guilty putting her 'back in a box' but just didnt want her to get trampled on poor thing.  When the weather improves hopefully by the weekend i can let them all out for a good run round and let her out to see if she can hobble about a bit?
