egg laying
« on: March 29, 2011, 18:27 »
Hello there,my young hens have just started laying. How do i get them to lay there eggs in the nest box rather than on the floor of the coup.I have six birds. Also some are laying and some haven't started yet.Do I still have to feed the ones that aren't laying yet on growers pellets or can I feed them all on layers pellets.they are not all the same age.I think there might be a month beween the oldest and the youngest birds.

many thanks to anyone who can help.

feed them all on layers pellets, and to show the new layers where to lay pop a plastic/rubber or pot egg in the nest box - if you don't have one of those then a golf ball will do  :D
Staffies are softer than you think.

I don't have rubber/pot eggs so to encourage the Bantams to lay I nabbed 2 of Alis golf balls, put them in the nest box and hay presto, 2 eggs :D but I had to leave them in there because every time I took them out they stopped lying >:(
