What breed of chick is this?
« on: August 31, 2011, 11:51 »
I've got one Faverolle, 3 Coloryield, 6 Hubbards and this chick, all 4 weeks old.  It's the second smallest, and unlike the other Hubbards it has pink feet, and some black feathering, yet today we've had to separate it from the others because it was badly attacking every other chick in the brooder.  Any ideas what breed it is and what do I do about its behaviour?  All advice and suggestions appreciated.

Looks like a sussex-based meat bird.  He'll be very tasty in about 10 weeks :)

Im  no expert at all, but It does look like a light sussex to me too. I have no advice on its bad behaviour though sorry, hope it gets sorted soon enough.

It also looks Light Sussex based to me as well. How much space do you have in your brooder? Lack of it can cause squabbles nasty enough to draw blood at even that young age.

They've got lots of room and things are nice and calm now that I've removed this one chick.  It will obviously need to get back to the heat though as I've only got one lamp.  Any other ideas for sorting it's behaviour?  My OH keeps mentioning spatchcock but it's still much too small  ::)
