What to plant?
« on: May 06, 2012, 15:51 »
I have cleaned up a small side of my plot. I added organic materials and it is looks fine, good soil!!! I am so happy!!!  ::)
I think that it will be ready soon to plant something. As I could see there were planted asparagus.
What do you think I can plant there? I am so happy, it is was not as bad as I thought!!!
Thank you very much in advance for your advice!!!!

Plant the veggies you like to eat, or the ones you think are far too expensive in the shops.   ::) Cheers,     Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

No, it is about the right time to sow courgettes, but they need heat to get going.

Start them off indoors, in small pots.  Either in a heated propogator, or with a plastic bag over the top and somewhere light such as a warm windowsill.

Once they come through and are a reasonable size, you need to get them used to outdoor temperatures, putting them out in the day and bringing them in at night, before you plant them out.

They won't stand frost, so I wouldn't plant them out before the first week in June.

Thanks AnneB for the advice. Definitely, I will plant courgettes!!
I will let you know how the process goes!!!

If there are already asparagus in the bed, I wouldn't make them compete with anything else in the same space.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

The asparagus were not ok and I took them away (most of them were just roots), now there is nothing. I have cleaned the area and I added compost (that I have already in my plot)...

Oh dear - you looks like you binned perfect asparagus plants.. they are only roots/crowns when they are dormant. They should have been starting to spear a couple of weeks ago 'ish
