Yipee, off to get 2 new chickens later today, old chicken house is all ready for them so i can keep them apart from my other chicken, they will still be able to see each other and chat as chickens do, but with the added advantage my other chicken will still be able to roam as she pleases, will give then a while like this then let them mix together, The two new ones will be vacinated which is good as i think the one they are replacing wasn't as from the day i had it,  it always had like a chesty cough, should have taken it back but it seemed happy enough, (not going back there again was a bit of a dive)  Wish me luck  really looking forward to it.  The old girl is getting cheeky been jumping on the feed bin then over the fence so have had to move the bin
 :D

well two nice young girls, put them in their box to settle and a couple of hours later  they thought they would come out to look about so good so far,   Night time comes and they decided they are not going back to the box and so they slept in the corner of the pen,  Good job its Fox proof,  might have to send my old girl in this evening to sort them out or they  are never going to go to bed, think there may be one escape route that i will have to fix before they let out into big run,  they are just small red chickens cant remember there names but they nice,  waiting for first egg

It will take at least two or three weeks for them to settle with each other.  Just make sure they can see each other.

If there is a large enough space for them to range about in when you put them together the new girls will be able to run away from trouble.  The pecking order will then be established without too much bloodshed.

It took a good 2/3 weeks for our two 'flocks' (6 chickens in each) to merge successfully. They all slept together happily at night but we separated them during the day with chicken wire so that they could see each other. As Aunt Sally says, space is important when do you finally have them together - the 'victim' of the odd scuffle can run away and the 'attacker' seems to give up quickly.

Good luck.
