Sorry for the long delay in reporting  back but due to the oh having me decorating and work issues i had not been able to pick up my new additions until last thursday evening. Getting them home it was really dark so i took them in to the coop and put them straight on to a perch. Friday was extremly cold and soon discovered their water frozen. Today on my way home from work i popped in to sort them out with food and fresh water to find 2 eggs waiting for me  :D

Hi, when are you trying to get them to bed? most chucks make their own way to the coop as its getting dark (well mine do anyway)

I find the best way is to bribe them with mixed corn or meal worms until they get the right idea  :D

They do look happy, heads down and bums up, best way to be!

Funny that they are not sleepy when it goes dark?  Mine all troop off on their own.  We get the occasional one shut out by the auto pophole, but its rare.  They're probably just too busy for bed because everything is new! :tongue2:

quick question for all you experianced people. When i brought my girls home they were laying from the time i got them home. Now for the past three days not a thing from them. Would it be the stress of being relocated combined with the cold weather? They still seem pretty happy, heads down bums up when i let them out and i can even get them to come in to the coop with a cleverly placed hand full of mixed corn. just a bit of head scratching for me as ithey have been with me now for a fortnight and i have had eggs from each bird every other day.

they will be fine it is just a period of resettlement, some of mine sulk and stop laying when I come back off holiday as well even though they are always well cared for  :)
