My comfrey is just popping up.
It grows nicely along my fence and acts as a wind break it also attracts lots of bees and i use it to make a brilliant liquid feed.
I know a few places were it grows  (including a corner of our allotment).
I usually dig up the root ,snap it into several 2 inch pieces and re-plant one of the pieces, so that it re-grows.
Remind me in a month and i will send you some root cuttings.

Thanks for the offer MOLUSC.

I'd better prep that little strip, nothing's been in there since we moved to this house, (7 yrs).
And so it's a bit compact shall we say........

Comfrey & Bistort
Comfrey & Bistort
I have been given one Russian comfrey plant and two Bistort plants, both herbs.   I intend to use the comfrey as a vegetable feeder.   My questions are.
1.  I believe Comfrey will take over the Allotment.  How can I prevent this?
2.  What care should I take, growing the Bistort?

Thank you for your time.

My Comfrey (not sure what type as someone give me it) has just started to form seed heads.
Should i cut these off then because im now worried about seeds all over my plot after reading this thread      ???
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

I'd chop the seed heads off if I were you, yes.  Mind you, I didn't do so at all last year and am currently living to tell the tale ...
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Just relised... it's now the end of April and 90% of my veg is in finally   :D

But....

Is it too late to plant comfrey, to get a crop to make that 'magic tea' ???

Got lost in time that's all. Never knew how long you can spend on a plot and
not get sick/fed up/bored etc....

You shouldn't harvest the first year (like rhubarb) but you can plant it anytime....just keep it watered well and feed it.
I picked some leaves today and used them to line the runner bean holes before planting.
