Horse Manure
« on: October 02, 2012, 14:49 »
We have just had an enormous delivery of Horse Manure to our site and there is as much again available.

I don't normally take horse manure from the communal load as I am never sure of the origins of it and am nervous of contaminating my plot.  However, this time I know the source and know that it isn't contaminated (my daughter has a horse in the yard where it came from so I did the background checking before I put the site owner in touch with the manure owner!!), I also know that the pile we have gotten is from roughly Jan to March of this year so 6 - 9 months old.  I have filled up two of my pallet composters with it as have most of the rest of the plot holders who want it.  As there is such a huge pile still there I was just wondering if it would be ok to spread this on the raised beds that are earmarked for potatoes next year - by the time the potatoes go in it will be 12 - 15 months old.  Should I spread on top or rotovate down?
