So I stumbled upon these today in the pasture. Those horses were devouring them with relish. A quick search and I found they are hedge apples. Aka horse apples lol. I've read that they were often planted along farms to create borders and the wood of the tree is used in bow making (and is actually supposed to be superior to yew for this purpose) Does anyone have any personal experience with these knobby little green fruit, tree or wood?

I'd never heard of it, so googled it! Very interesting tree, but not found in the UK.

Yeah after I read more about it I realized it's native to North America (can be found from Texas all the way to Canada (huge climate difference there! Lol). The oldest known living osage orange tree is located not too far from where I live and I may just have to take a drive down there to get pics. Haha not a bad find just wandering around the pasture, even if there's not much to do with the fruit. Just reading about the history of it and its properties has been fascinating in and of itself !
