sexing chicks

what age is it possible to sex chicks? i wont be keeping them all so would like to find out as soon as i can, thankyou

Some breeds you can tell immediately after hatching - either sex-linked or autosexing breeds.

Some other breeds you can tell at about 8-10 weeks, when the boys start to grow pointy hackle and saddle feathers, and their combs and wattles start to grow.

Again some other breeds, it is very difficult to tell, and often you have to wait until first crow (or lay an egg!)

on the silkie its very hard to sex sorry you will have to wait for a crow on them. and exchequer leghorn can be hard to sex by the comb as the hens have large combs that flop to the side i'm giving you a link that might help at around 8-15 weeks
