Incredible Tomatoes, Heavy on pictures!
« on: August 03, 2008, 22:00 »
Thought I would share these photos of my Toms now that my computor is working properly again
Had lots of problems with them earlier on but now have the most amazing crop. Have had loads of unidentified yellow spots and some rotten fruit previously. Destroyed some plants and removed a lot of leaves on others. Came to the conclusion that it was poor quality compost causing the problems as they made an amazing recovery when double dosed with tom food twice a week.
There are some weird shaped tomatoes amonst these!!

There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.

Oooh, they look yummy!  What varieties did you plant?  Some of them are really weird shapes, but they are usually the ones that are fleshier and more tasty!

I like the little orange ones!!

wow! you do like your tomatoes!

I've decided this year that I'll mainly grow plum tomatoes so that I can make my own passata 'cos I realised that I don't eat that many tomatoes but I do make a lot of tomato based meals.

They're some good looking toms Jen  :D

Pink Brandywine are the huge weird shaped ones. Others are Marmande, Ferline, Shirley and Sungold.
Have eaten a few brandywine allready and they are lovely tasting and you can fill a plate with one tomato!

They were started early this year and planted in the greenhouse in April (heated) I dont think I would do this again though. From searching on google it appears that the cold can cause these deformed fruit and I think later planted toms soon catch up anyway.
I have other varieties planted outdoors- Gardeners delight, Tigerella and a rare variety called Arasta which is fantastic. These were put out in June and also have ripening fruit.

Shirely you can't be serious!

I agree with Big Jen - they are my 'staple' tom. And when all else fails, you could read the description on the packet!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
