Herbs for chickens

my chicks are 4 weeks old and i have started thinking about planting out some plants i their run, ready for them to come out in a few weeks. i have a planter full of herbs which have run to flower and then seed because of the hot weather, do you think this will  be ok for the chicks or should i just stick to grass.
