Thinking ahead to next year...

Are there any onions (bought as sets) which will grow to a decent slicing size (approx 3-4ins) and not taste too strong?

Good slicing onions are one of the things I miss about the UK!  Here in France, all of the onions seem to be 1.5-2ins in diameter and are all too strong tasting for my sandwiches

i always go for either sturon or stuttgarter - they always (well apart from this year) grow to a decent size

next year for 1st time i will be trying texas early grano onion seeds. the spec says they are sweet and mild in taste and grow to a decent size. not sure how it will cope with our weather but i do hope they don't bolt half way

Ailsa Craig or Kelsae make big mild onions, you can sometimes get sets or little plants in the spring. Check out e-bay
