I had one re-grow back this year. Moved it to the new bean fence. Can't tell you how it did, as it got lost in the jungle of the others!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Soon as the tops brown off I pick whats left for seed and cut down the rest. The roots re-shoot the following year and I fill in the gaps with the saved seed. Every three years I dig them up move the frame and plant new seed. It works good for me and I get more than enough for our needs. Some of the roots I've dug up are like dahlia tubers.
