some advice please
« on: May 21, 2008, 23:11 »
Hi all,
have`nt posted for months but info i have got from this site has been invaluable since getting my plot last autumn.
My allotment site is owned and "run" by a local charity so there is no formal agreement, just pay my cash each year and hope we do not get evicted at a moments notice. The charity have decided to sell a third of the site to developers(including my plot) and say they will re-locate all affected to to far end which is currently under 40 foot tall trees and brambles. I do not belive this will happen and think all the site will be sold within two years. The local council cannot help, all they say is "we do not have any cash to provide an allotment site". Does anyone know if the county council (Hertfordshire, in this case) could be forced to stump up the cash to help.
Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

  not bloomin good enough, I don't know a lot about allotment law but the council do have to provide plots if you can get enough signatures its only 6 or so I think, also approach the planning dept and log a protest against any planning that might be in progress.
not much help sorry  :(

I've seen quite a few threads on this subject quoting various laws, so I'm sure someone will be along to help you soon.

I reckon it must be easier in rural areas as the parish council (here) were talking about land available for more lotties, even before I took the last two plots ;)

I don't think the chap doing the talking realised there were usable plots left at  the site I am now on, so they probably won't bother now that there's no waiting list. But my point is that they actually have land available, so I presume that a lot of the cost problem is realated to land prices. :(
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

The allotments in Baldock (near new Bypass) look really nice, i sometimes go home from work that way and have stopped and had a look around. They look alot better than what we have!!
