Bed 3 is Finished!

Finally managed to finish digging my 3rd allotment bed. This has taken a while to finish due to bad weather and some monster roots from my neighbours Horse Chestnut tree. Got there in the end tho!

That looks really good! What are you planting in it?  My OH has been away on business and will get home today expecting our lottie to be dug, planted and harvested!  (Just kidding). I haven't struck a bat down there this week, I've not been well. I'm desperately ashamed, honestly -        - it's just that me face hasn't caught up with me emotions!
Still glowing, still growing, still going strong!

Not really sure at this moment what we are going to plant here. I was thinking of having this as a fruit bed. All thats in there at the moment is a single Rhubard plant.

Looking good Glen.  You'll know the hard work was worth it when you're eating your produce  :D

good work m8, i wish my soil was as crumbly as that, gonna take a few years of compost i think.but i am lucky enough to have a long garden so i dont have to walk to the allotments.
glen were u able to chop the roots with a spade or did u saw them off?
ive recently sawed off some conifer roots they were very hard, tried a spade at first and nearly broke my wrist

Really nice work Glen. Know what you mean about the tree roots. I had to chop out my neighbour's Blue Spruce roots which thought they owned my yard. Had to use a hatchet, pickax and bowsaw to cut them out. Hope I didn't kill his tree but he shouldn't have planted the monster right beside our fence.

To be honest i used the spade to chop them off, but i have to agree that it killed my hand and forearm the next day. The roots were about 5 inches thick at their worst. The hardest part was excavating them from the bed as they were burried from one side of this bed to the other. Hard work but hopefully now they are removed the soil will be a little more fertile!
