Quick question - wilting plum tomatoes
« on: June 11, 2008, 14:50 »
Hi Everyone,

My name is Nats, it's nice to meet you all!  I usually post on the Hen  House forum but often read your forum to find useful advice...now I have a question to ask that I can't find an answer for so I hope you can help...

My plum tomato (greenhouse variety) has been growing amazingly. The trusses already have quite large, green tomatoes developing and it looks really healthy. I feed it twice a week and have removed sideshoots as directed on the seed packet.

Now the problem...in the last few days it's leaves have started wilting - not discolouring, getting spots or dying - but just going really soft and floppy...it's a very obvious difference from how it was last week.

I am a bit of a novice but I was wondering if the plant's been getting too hot...am I correct? Is there anything I can do to help the plant recover? The tomatoes seem to still be developing fine, is't just all the leaves!

Any advice is much appreciated.

With thanks,

Nats

Hello, Nats, I should think so. Shade, air and water as much as you can, we had a few rather warm days.

Much thanks Gobs, I had a feeling it was due to the last few hot, sunny days we had. Thanks for your advice.

Much appreciated.

Could also be overwatering?
There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.

Thanks big Jen...I'll bear that in mind. They're looking much better since I moved them into the shade a bit.

Thanks again.

I wouldn't think it was over watering. We are not talking wilt as disease, wilt as in floppy.

Water-logged: yellow. :D
