Have been reading all the potato threads with interest but have a slightly different question. How late can I plant them?

My family likes Charlottes (2nd earlies), I know I can start planting some late March / April and I was wondering the latest time I could plant them to crop as late as possible ?

If you put the seed to chit in a cool and light place they will hold until you are ready to plant. Whether delay is because of bad weather or through choice they are fine at least up to about the end of April and may be a little later. If the seed becomes wrinkled spray it with water or even dilute liquid feed.

The later you plant the later the crop will bulk up. The danger is that a late crop will not have bulked up before blight arrives and you have to cut off the tops.

Thanks Salmo, only just ordered the seed potaotes for delivery next month and so don't have to worry about chitting just yet.

It's just that we all (especially my 3yo daughter) like Charlottes  and wanted some for later in the year, knowing they don't store (taste wise) that well. So it seems if I planted some at the end of July for harvesting in October they would more than likely get blight ?
