greetings to all,can i pinch the top of my broad beans or will it harm the plants,reason being to cut down on blackfly.thanks

If the tops aren't actually affected by blackfly yet, you can steam them for an extra veg. If they are affected don't worry try pinching out earlier next year.

How high should they be before pinching out? No blackfly yet . . . Not grown them before :)

I pinched mine off, when there were first signs of beans growing at the base of the plant. Heiightwise it may depend on the variety. Mine were approx 4 ft for Longpods and 3ft for Crimson flowered variety. If you beat the blackfly, I would echo the comment about the tips. Absolutely delicious!
