Chatting on the Plot / How much TV do you watch

I've realised today that  I don't watch, I just listen.   I've just sung along to  Calamity Jane without  watching any of it.

Roast beef, yorkies that we bought  ready made and won't again, green  beans, swede and roast potatoes.  Paul had an accident with the gravy ' apparently'   so it was a bit dry.

Interesting question I had normally assumed my bent spears were as a result of beetle or slug damage. You are correct though that stones can bend the spears along with wind. I would be very careful about shifting soil around them at present.
As I say I get some bent spears but I normally just cut them off and discard them. If you wish you can keep them for soup of course. I would be tempted to hold off for a couple of seasons to let the plants get well established and then consider stone removal if you are getting a lot of bent spears then. Good luck HH

You'll probably get the hang of how the Octopus website works given a bit of time GG. But yes, it's easy to miss emails saying that your supplier has been taken over if you aren't expectingi it.

Early visit to Plot 13 to beat the heat.... Made the first comfrey and nettle tea batches of the year, gave the asparagus and potatoes a seaweed feed and then weeded the whole plot before the little beggars get too big  After a couple of hot dry days the soil in the beds is looking dreadful, grey, dry and cracked plus full of stones. 2024 looks like the year I am mostly going to be putting in some serious work improving the soil in each bed!

Oh I am green with envy at your harvests! I only have to wait one more year.....  :tongue2:
Quick question for you guys - Some of my spears came up curly, I mean REALLY curly!  I read that this could be due to scraping against stones on the way up, and as my soil IS very stony, would it be worth VERY carefully excavating the soil around the crowns at the end of the season and sifting out any stones I find? then refilling around them with some decent topsoil? Thanks.

Serious harvest here in Hampshire too.
Enough for dinner and some into store for soup.
Had to squash some beetles though.

Alan Titchmarsh. He seems so down to earth, I feel I could really have a chat with him, rather than have to be careful what I was saying....
