... sort of a plum red colour??

There's nowt wrong with the carrot itself, just that the tops are really quite red.

its just the colour from the tops the carrots showing  if you check them they will show red to . its a build up of carotene im guessing. if booties carrots had rootfly we would have heard the screams from here :lol:

It sounds like an attack of carrot willow aphid. It can cause various viruses and can cause young plants to collapse.....so you might want to pull up any infected carrots and eat asap if they're a reasonable size.

... I looked that up, never heard of it before.  But the viruses associated with it turn the foiliage red, and the foiliage is fine.  The carrots look perfectly normal and healthy just with rosy red tops.

Oh well, I can't dig all the devilling things up, we're talking 32 feet of them!!

I shall just keep harvesting and checking em for tunnelling and stuntedness.

Thanks for ideas and thoughts.

the tops of my carrots go like that if they are showing above ground wellies. I don't think there's anything wrong either, just a bit too much sun?????
