How long does an leek/onion flower take from opening to actually having the seeds ready to be collected?
My Musselburgh leek and red baron onions have had their seed heads in full bloom from about mid may and it the flowers don't look any different this whole time. There is no problem with insects visiting as they are covered in bees etc.

I've been told that If you have another type of onion withing 1500 mt you could end up with a cross pollination!!

The seeds turn black when they are ripe - at that stage they will start to fall out of the seeds heads.
