My broad beans went in under a poly cloche earlier this week (witkiem manita). The cloche was up for a while to warm the bed a bit so they should be up soon. I`ll do another sowing outside in a couple of weeks and do the first of the peas in guttering at the same time.

The guttering will sit under the same cloche while there is room between the BB rows and I`ll slide them out into their own bed when they`re a few inches high

I grow my peas up a brick wall.
I have put long nails into the wall and tie string between the nails in rows and weave canes in between.
Its on the edge of a patio and only a 8 inch width trench for them to grow in between wall and patio.
They have cropped beautifully through the years.
I will sow them in the ground early March, then sow more April.
Later in the year I sow two lots in June and July, keeping a good supply.

Where they are tends not to be seen and attacked by birds and its such a pretty to crop to have on the patio.

I sow broad beans in pots in third week in january, then another batch a month later. Both these will be in an unheated lean to (south facing). In March I'll sow outside. In the end the later ones tend to catch up with the early ones, though so it doesn't make a huge difference. They grow well outside with some sort of protection (cloche/coldframe) once they have germinated at this time of year - peas I'm less knowledgeable about - see DD's posts.

Oooh sugar snap peas or mange tout - that might be an idea for a change :D

they are brilliant - steamed, stirfried or raw.  As easy as peas to grow and you dont have to pod them.  Too many and you can freeze them - they arent great from the freezer, but I find they stir fry well enough in the cold dark days when you need the green taste of summer.

I've bought some of those to try this year - Bijou giant sugar pea from Realseeds  :)

If you have a friendly old fashion nursery nearby you may be able get the trays that their plug plants come in. These make excellent trays 6/7 deep by 10-12 wide to start peas in.you can then plant them out evenly.
