collapsed greenhouse
« on: May 14, 2007, 10:19 »
Morning friends, over the weekend my green house collapsed due to wind and rain. not good. the result is that all my tomatoes now have to live outdoors on the patio at home. The varieties are ; Alicante, shirley F1 and moneymaker. I cant remember what types they are ( bushy or long) can anyone remind me please?  : :?
trying to be organic....

hi dadbear - sorry to hear about the greenhouse

re your toms - moneymaker and alicante are classed as ordinary varieties which are grown as cordons on a single stem and stopped at 4th or fith truss - they will grow outside ok but will need support.

shirly f1 is a hybrid but won't mind the odd cold spell - so should be ok outside too - maybe with a bit of protection. i don't think shirly grows as tall, but will need supporting still.

can you rebuilt the greenhouse - or is it smashed to bits?

Excellent, thanks very much for that. We are nice and sheltered here so i think the toms will be ok. The greenhouse was one of those plastic things I got for a few quid in poundstretcher , so nothing lost! Will need to save up for a 'real' one !!!
